vistas: The Island

Well, I guess you'll be wondering why they call it an island.

Around the time the last census came through, about 1899, was the year of a terrible hurricane. We got more rain than we'd seen in a hundred and fifty years. Why, we got twice as many 6 inches of rain as we usually do. And by the worst kind of bad luck, that same year, the assistant town manager of dams was in neglect of his duty. He was called away in the middle of the night to assist his pregnant wife in delivering a baby goat.

(they were assisting the mama goat. him and his pregnant wife..)

But because the assistant town manager of dams was in neglect of his duty, the dam gates were never opened. When the rains came, the lake was three feet higher than it ought to have been. The lake came up and up, until it got so high that somebody said, "there's going to be a few changes around here. now that we're an ISLAND."
